According to Deadline, the actor died by suicide at his Los Angeles home on January 16, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
San Martin appeared on Days of Our Lives for six months in 2011, portraying Dario Hernandez, a character initially introduced as a petty thief who later turned out to be an officer investigating a cold case. His character eventually moved to Argentina after receiving a job promotion. The role was later recast, with actor Jordi Vilasuso taking over the part from 2016 to 2017.
In addition to his work on Days of Our Lives, San Martin had notable roles in Jane the Virgin, where he appeared opposite Gina Rodriguez in seasons 3 and 4, portraying a brief and complicated relationship. His career also included roles in Behind the Candelabra and The Bold and the Beautiful.
The news of San Martin’s death has shocked Hollywood, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and friends. Actress Camila Banus, who played his on-screen sister Gabi on Days of Our Lives, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, writing, “Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend.
