Washington DC [US], May 25: Former Doctor Who star David Tennant recently shared his enthusiasm for the role of Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in Marvel’s upcoming film The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Despite Pedro Pascal being officially cast in the role, Tennant admitted he had once hoped to portray the iconic superhero.
Speaking at MCM Comic Con, Tennant responded to a fan question about which superhero he’d like to play. He revealed his interest in Mister Fantastic, acknowledging the franchise’s choice while expressing support for Pascal.
“In terms of superheroes, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards, and unfortunately, it looks like they’ve gone in a different direction. Although if it has to be someone, I’m very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal,” Tennant told Variety.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps, slated for release on July 25, boasts a star-studded cast. Pedro Pascal plays Reed Richards, joined by Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing), Julia Garner as Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.
Following The Fantastic Four, fans will experience a significant gap in MCU content, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. This marks the longest hiatus between Marvel films since the 2019 release of Spider-Man: Far From Home and 2021’s Black Widow.
The break is largely attributed to delays in major MCU projects. Avengers: Doomsday, initially set for May 1, 2026, has been pushed back to December 18, 2026. Its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, has also been rescheduled from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027.
