Washington DC, July 6: David Corenswet, star of James Gunn’s upcoming Superman, revealed he spoke with former Supermen Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) and Tyler Hoechlin (Superman & Lois) for encouragement ahead of taking on the iconic role, reported Variety.
Speaking on the red carpet at the London premiere, Corenswet shared that while both Cavill and Hoechlin were supportive, they intentionally avoided giving advice so he could bring his own interpretation to the character.
“Both of them, interestingly, sort of said in their own words, ‘I’m not gonna try and give you any tips,’” Corenswet said. “They really just conveyed encouragement and a sense of ‘have fun with it,’ which I think is Superman’s way of doing it too.”
Corenswet stars alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl in Gunn’s Superman, set for theatrical release on July 11.
Meanwhile, Gunn also teased plans for a new Wonder Woman project, naming “Hit Man” star Adria Arjona as a potential candidate for the role. “She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way,” Gunn added, addressing speculation after he followed Arjona on Instagram.
Superman marks the first major release of Gunn’s revamped DC Universe and is expected to set the tone for future projects under his leadership.
