Washington [USA], December 21: Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett are set to star alongside Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway in Verity, a film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s No.1 New York Times bestseller. Directed by Michael Showalter (The Baxter), the film will be released in theatres.
The script is written by Nick Antosca, with prior drafts by Colleen Hoover & Lauren Levine, Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, and Will Honley & April Maguire.
The plot centers on Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin, who is hired by Jeremy Crawford (Hartnett), the husband of best-selling mystery author Verity Crawford (Hathaway). Verity, unable to finish her popular book series due to an unexplained injury, requires Ashleigh to complete the series. Upon arriving at the Crawford estate, Ashleigh uncovers a hidden manuscript that could expose disturbing truths about the family’s past.
Verity was initially self-published in 2018 and quickly became a sensation, spending months on the bestseller list and selling over 1 million copies in 2023 alone.
Dakota Johnson was last seen in Marvel’s Madame Web, directed by SJ Clarkson, where she played a clairvoyant paramedic. She will also be appearing in the upcoming films Materialists and Splitsville.
