Washington DC [US], June 6: Actress Dakota Johnson remained tight-lipped about her recent breakup with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin during her latest appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, just a day after reports of their split surfaced.
Instead of addressing the end of their nearly eight-year relationship, Johnson steered the conversation toward her upcoming film ‘Materialists’, directed by Celine Song of Past Lives fame. Johnson gushed about the filmmaker, saying she was “obsessed” with her Oscar-nominated work. Host Seth Meyers and Johnson playfully dubbed her latest project a “rom-dramedy.”
Johnson’s silence came amidst media frenzy over her split from Martin, whom she began dating in 2017. The couple, known for their on-again, off-again romance, were last seen together in Malibu in May, living in the same home. Just months earlier, in January, they were photographed holding hands in India, squashing rumours of a split.
In March 2024, sources confirmed the pair had been engaged for years, but were deliberately private and unrushed about wedding plans. At the time, Dakota spoke fondly of watching Martin perform live, telling Bustle: “I could watch him every day… I’m watching my most favourite being do his most favourite thing.”
She also expressed deep affection for Martin’s children, Apple and Moses, from his previous marriage to Gwyneth Paltrow, saying, “I love those kids like my life depends on it.”
Though no official statement has been made, Johnson’s decision to sidestep personal questions during the talk show interview has only added to speculation surrounding the quiet end of one of Hollywood’s most private relationships.
