New Delhi [India]: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved eight capital acquisition proposals totaling over ₹54,000 crore.
For the Indian Army, the DAC sanctioned the procurement of a 1350 HP Engine to upgrade the existing 1000 HP Engine for T-90 tanks. According to the Ministry of Defence, this upgrade will enhance battlefield mobility, especially in high-altitude regions, by improving the tanks’ power-to-weight ratio.
The Indian Navy received approval for the procurement of Varunastra Torpedoes (Combat) — an indigenously developed ship-launched anti-submarine torpedo designed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory. The induction of additional units will bolster the Navy’s defense capabilities against submarine threats.
For the Indian Air Force, the DAC approved the procurement of Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) Aircraft Systems. These systems significantly enhance battlefield awareness and improve the combat effectiveness of other weapon systems, the Ministry of Defence stated.
In alignment with the Ministry’s 2025 initiative, designated as the ‘Year of Reforms’, the DAC also approved new guidelines aimed at accelerating various stages of the Capital Acquisition Process to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Additionally, the Defence Ministry has allocated ₹100 crore for the construction of a new Sainik School in Langvoku, Karbi Anglong district, Assam. This amount is part of the total ₹335.87 crore allocated for the development of Sainik Schools for the financial year 2024-25.
