Port Blair – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands due to a cyclonic circulation forming over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify from November 21st. This weather system will bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough sea conditions to the islands over the coming days.

In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the administration has issued strict warnings:
- Fishermen Advisory: Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Andaman Sea till November 23rd. This warning applies to the sea along and off the North Andaman Sea.
- Port Warning: A Local Cautionary Signal-3 has been hoisted at Port Blair Port.
- Boats & Tourism: Boat owners, islanders, and tourists are advised to ply boats with utmost vigilance. Recreation activities in the sea must be carried out with due care.
- Travel Disruption: The Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) is most likely to reschedule or cancel mainland/inter-Island/foreshore sector vessels at very short notice. Harbour/vehicle ferry services at key points like Chatham and Phoenix Bay may also face disruption or suspension.
The general public and tourists are requested to follow all safety guidelines issued by the local administration and avoid venturing into the sea.
🌀 System Intensity and Path
The initial cyclonic circulation is likely to lead to a low-pressure area forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22nd. IMD forecasts indicate that this system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the central parts of the South Bay of Bengal around November 24th.
