Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] – Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins conceded that his team “never got going” following their seventh-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) in an IPL 2025 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
After winning the toss, MI put SRH into bat. What followed was a top-order collapse as SRH crumbled to 35/5 in just 8.3 overs. The innings was only salvaged by a 99-run partnership between Heinrich Klaasen (71 off 44) and Abhinav Manohar (43 off 27) that helped the hosts reach a modest 143/8 in 20 overs.
Cummins on the Loss: “We Never Got Going”
In the post-match presentation, Cummins praised Klaasen and Abhinav for their fightback but acknowledged that the early damage was too much to overcome.
“Klaasen and Abhinav did well for us to get to a total,” Cummins said. “But we never got going. After a couple of wickets, you have to find a way to steady the ship. Couldn’t do that.”
He emphasized that while the pitch wasn’t overly difficult, the team failed to adjust.
“You’re allowed to bowl a good over, build your innings and catch up. You have to start at 0 for 0 every time—it’s about assessing the pitch every time you play.”
SRH’s Season Woes Continue
Cummins reflected on the volatile nature of T20 cricket, citing the contrast between SRH’s 280-plus run game earlier in the season and their current struggles.
“That’s T20—you don’t know what happens,” he remarked.
Despite the loss, Cummins said the focus is now on regrouping ahead of their away games.
“It hasn’t worked out so far. We have a few away games now. It’s about assessing each wicket quickly.”
