New Delhi (India) : The Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduate programmes (CUET-UG) 2025, originally scheduled to begin on May 8, is expected to be postponed, according to official sources familiar with the matter. While an official announcement from the National Testing Agency (NTA) is still awaited, logistical difficulties are reportedly prompting the likely delay.
The exam was initially planned to be conducted between May 8 and June 1, 2025, across hundreds of centers in India and abroad.
Why the Delay?
Officials have cited the intensity of the ongoing exam season, coupled with tight logistical constraints, as reasons for the anticipated postponement. With over 13 lakh students registered, CUET-UG is India’s second-largest entrance exam after NEET-UG.
The NTA is already handling a packed calendar, including the NEET and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), both of which demand significant coordination in terms of centers, staff, and infrastructure.
What’s at Stake?
CUET-UG acts as a single-window gateway for admissions to undergraduate programmes in more than 250 universities, including Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
The exam’s widespread adoption has made it a critical component of the higher education admissions process in India, meaning a delay could impact academic calendars and admission timelines across institutions.
Next Steps:
An official update from the NTA is expected soon. Candidates are advised to regularly check the NTA website and their registered email/SMS for notifications.
