The Critics Choice Awards, originally scheduled for January 14 in Santa Monica, has been postponed again due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, according to The Hollywood Reporter. After two previous delays, the event will now be held on February 7, 2024, at the Barker Hangar, located near areas heavily impacted by the fires.
The awards ceremony was first set to air live on E!, but it was initially pushed to January 26 before the fires caused another postponement. The Critics Choice Association (CCA) confirmed the new date, expressing concern for those affected by the disaster. Joey Berlin, CEO of the CCA, shared a statement last week acknowledging the profound impact of the fires on the community and offering thoughts and prayers to those battling the devastation.
The ceremony will still take place at the Barker Hangar, situated close to the Pacific Palisades, an area that has seen widespread evacuations and significant property damage. In addition to the Los Angeles fires, a separate wildfire continues to affect the Pasadena-Altadena region. As a result of the rescheduling, the planned “Live from E!: Critics Choice Awards” red carpet special will no longer be part of the event.
Comedian Chelsea Handler will return as host for the third consecutive year. The ceremony will celebrate top nominees, including TV shows like Wicked, Conclave, and Shogun, which are among the frontrunners.
This postponement adds to the list of Hollywood events impacted by the fires, including the delayed Oscars nominations announcement, now set for January 23. Several premieres and parties, including those for Wolf Man, Unstoppable, and Better Man, have been rescheduled or canceled, while the BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills and the AFI Awards have also been postponed. In New York, the premiere of Back in Action was canceled, and several screenings, including Goosebumps: The Vanishing, were delayed.
