LOS ANGELES — The first night of the 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards was a major showcase for streaming services, with Apple TV+ and HBO leading the pack. Held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, the ceremony honored excellence in a variety of technical and creative fields, setting the stage for the main Emmy Awards ceremony.
Apple TV+’s series The Studio emerged as the night’s top winner, taking home a total of nine trophies. It was a successful night for the network, with another one of its major titles, Severance, securing six awards. Not to be outdone, HBO’s crime drama The Penguin had a strong showing with eight wins. Netflix also made its mark, with the animated series Arcane earning four trophies, including the prestigious award for Outstanding Animated Program.
A number of notable actors were recognized for their work, including Bryan Cranston for his guest role in The Studio, Shawn Hatosy for The Pitt, and Julianne Nicholson for Hacks.
A Look at the Major Wins
The awards highlighted the outstanding craftsmanship and technical skill behind some of the year’s most acclaimed shows.
The Penguin swept the makeup categories, winning for Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic) and Prosthetic Makeup, as well as for Contemporary Hairstyling. The show also received a trophy for Contemporary Costumes.
Meanwhile, Apple TV+’s Severance was celebrated for its striking visual style, winning for Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program. The Studio also earned a production design award for a half-hour narrative program, in addition to wins for Casting for a Comedy Series and Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for Bryan Cranston.

- Character Voice-Over Performance: Julie Andrews, Bridgerton
- Individual Achievement in Animation: Arcane (for background design and color), and Love, Death + Robots (for character animation and character design)
The two-night event will continue, with more awards to be handed out before the main Emmy Awards ceremony.
