CPI(M)’s MA Baby Slams US Strikes On Iran, Calls For Nationwide Protests

Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary MA Baby has strongly condemned the recent US airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, terming the action a “grave violation of international law” and warning of dire global consequences, including for India.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Baby criticised US President Donald Trump’s decision to order the strikes, calling it a reckless act reminiscent of the 2003 Iraq invasion under false WMD claims.

“We unequivocally condemn the US attack on Iran’s nuclear sites — a grave violation of international law. Trump ordered this strike, ignoring US intelligence that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons. This mirrors the Iraq war lies — lies about WMDs then and nukes now. The economic & political fallout will be global, including for India. The US has proved itself to be the No. 1 Rogue State. Call for Protest action wherever possible,” Baby said.

Speaking to media, Baby added that the CPI(M) and other Left parties are calling upon the public to protest the “naked declaration of war” by the US and Israel. He also urged the Indian government to take a firm diplomatic stand against the attacks.

“We condemn this attack unequivocally. We call upon people to come out in protests against this naked declaration of war. We want the Indian government to take a firm stand against this aggression,” Baby told media.

His remarks come after US and Israeli coordinated airstrikes on Iran’s key nuclear sites at Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow early Sunday morning. The strikes involved US B-2 bombers dropping “bunker buster” GBU-57 bombs, according to CNN reports.

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) responded by accusing the US and Israel of “savage aggression” and violating international laws including the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The organisation vowed to continue its nuclear program and resist what it called “malicious plots” against Iran’s sovereignty.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry also demanded an emergency session of the UN Security Council, condemning the attack and accusing the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of indifference and complicity.

Meanwhile, President Trump, in an address from the White House, warned Tehran of “far greater tragedy” if peace is not achieved soon. He praised Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for coordinating the strikes and hailed the US military for its role in the operation.

“Tonight’s was the most difficult and perhaps the most lethal of targets. But if peace does not come quickly, we will go after other targets with precision, speed, and skill,” Trump said.

Trump was accompanied by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth during his address.

The strikes mark a severe escalation in the Israel-Iran conflict, now in its ninth day, raising fears of a broader regional war and drawing sharp criticism from global observers, including Indian political leaders.
