In response to rising concerns after the Pahalgam terror attack — where 26 people were killed, making it one of the deadliest strikes since Pulwama (2019) — the Chandigarh Police have rolled out special security measures to protect Kashmiri students in the city.
- Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP/UT Chandigarh, met Kashmiri students from institutions like Panjab University and DAV College to hear their concerns.
- A Special Assistance Desk has been set up at the Police Control Room, Sector 9, and residents have been advised to use Emergency Helpline 112 if needed.
- Increased patrolling has been ordered around student-heavy areas, and SHOs have been tasked with special monitoring duties.
- Regular meetings between police officials and Kashmiri students have been initiated to maintain trust and ensure continued dialogue.
- Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious activities and help maintain peace and harmony.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, a mess worker at Jamia Millia Islamia allegedly assaulted a 24-year-old Kashmiri woman student on April 27.
- The accused, Abid (22), was detained the same night.
- Although no formal complaint has yet been filed, police said an FIR will be registered once the student submits her complaint.
- The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has also launched emergency helpline numbers and set up a dedicated support team to assist students and coordinate with authorities.
