GURUGRAM — The dreams of nearly a dozen students were nearly crushed when they discovered they wouldn’t receive admit cards for their Class 10 CBSE exams. The reason? Educrest International School in Gurugram was found to have valid CBSE affiliation only up to Class 8, despite enrolling and teaching students for the board-level Class 10.
A Scramble for Justice
The crisis came to a head last week when parents of nine affected students moved the High Court in a desperate bid to save their children’s future. In a compassionate ruling on Monday, the court not only provided relief to the petitioners but proactively included two other students who hadn’t joined the plea, noting that their “academic future is also at stake.”
The Switch to State Board
Since the CBSE window had closed due to the affiliation lapse, the court directed the Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) to facilitate the students’ appearance in the state board exams instead.
- The Requirement: Counsel for the Haryana board, Vasundhra Asija Bhandari, confirmed that provisional admit cards would be issued immediately upon the submission of requisite examination fees.
- The Challenge: While the move prevents a “gap year,” it forces students who spent the entire year studying the CBSE curriculum to suddenly adapt to the state board’s examination pattern with zero notice.
Parents React: Relief Mixed with Necessity
For the families involved, the court’s decision is a bittersweet victory. One parent expressed deep gratitude but noted the difficult transition ahead:
“Our children have studied the CBSE syllabus for the entire year. We were left with no option but to accept this decision. We are grateful to the court; at least our child’s academic year will not be wasted.”
Accountability for Educrest International
The school now faces intense scrutiny for misleading parents and students. While the school is affiliated with the state board (making this last-minute switch possible), its lack of Class 10 CBSE credentials has raised serious questions about administrative transparency and the oversight of private educational institutions in the region.
