In just two days, Rajinikanth’s “Coolie” broke box office records and made over ₹250 crore around the world.
At 74, superstar Rajinikanth has made a movie that is a huge hit with his latest release, Coolie. The movie has taken the world by storm, making ₹250 crore in just two days and proving once again that the superstar is the best. Taking advantage of the long weekend for Independence Day, Coolie has not only broken records but also become the first Tamil film of 2025 to do so.
A Huge Success at the Box Office in India and Around the World
Coolie was different from other South Indian movies that had a big decline in earnings after their huge opening day. It only dropped 17% on its second day. Because of the vacation and good word of mouth, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film has made ₹118.50 crore net in India in its first two days, with a total of ₹145 crore gross.
The movie has done just as well overseas. Coolie made $8.75 million on its first day, which is the most any Tamil film has ever made in one day. There was a drop on Day 2, as expected, because there was no foreign holiday. However, trade estimates put the film’s total overseas collection at over $13 million (₹110 crore) in two days, bringing its worldwide total to over ₹250 million.
Rajinikanth is the best, beating all the others.
The movie’s amazing two-day run has already made more money than some of this year’s biggest blockbusters, making Rajinikanth the king of Tamil cinema. Coolie has made more money than Ajith Kumar’s movies Good Bad Ugly (₹248 crore) and Vidaamuyarchi (₹138 crore), as well as other big hits like Dragon (₹150 crore). It is now the highest-grossing Tamil movie of the year.
Experts in trade are now saying that the movie would have a huge opening weekend, with predictions saying it might gross more than ₹400 crore and go straight for the all-time Tamil record of ₹691 crore, which is held by Rajinikanth’s own 2.0.
Rajinikanth plays the title character in Coolie, which was directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The movie also stars Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and Upendra, with Aamir Khan making a special appearance.
