The latest movie by superstar Rajinikanth, Coolie, is breaking records at the global box office. The movie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has not only made over ₹200 crore in India, but it is also the fastest Tamil movie to make over ₹300 crore worldwide.
The movie kept winning after a huge launch on Thursday, but its collections in India fell during the weekend. Industry trackers’ first estimations say that Coolie’s four-day total in India is currently a huge ₹200.85 crore. The movie made ₹65 crore on Thursday, ₹54.75 crore on Friday, ₹38.60 crore on Saturday, and an anticipated ₹42.50 crore on Sunday.
The movie’s success in the global market has been nothing short of remarkable. In just three days, Coolie made more over ₹320 crore worldwide, breaking the record set by Vijay’s Leo, which took four days to reach the same amount. This makes Coolie the Tamil film with the biggest opening ever.
In addition to breaking records, Coolie has also made more money at the box office than some of Bollywood’s biggest hits, such as Sitaare Zameen Par and Housefull 5. The movie’s tremendous momentum is also clear from the fact that it beat its main rival, War 2, which stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR.
Even though the movie got mixed reviews, its success shows that Rajinikanth is still a big celebrity and that there is a huge demand for Tamil movies around the world. Analysts now think that Coolie could join the exclusive ₹600 crore worldwide club, which only three other Tamil films have done. Two of those films also starred Rajinikanth.
