Rajouri (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]: The construction of National Highway 144A, which connects Jammu, Akhnoor, Nowshera, Rajouri, and Poonch, is in full swing, with work progressing day and night to ensure timely completion.
High-Speed Construction Efforts Underway
Structural engineer Arun highlighted the rapid progress of the project, stating:
“We are working in day and night shifts, and the work is underway on a war-footing level. We are trying to clear the road as soon as possible. 90% of the cutting is complete, and the remaining work will be finished in the next 7-10 days.”
He further emphasized the urgency of completing the project to ensure smooth travel for commuters.
“There are 12 bridges, and 70% of the work is already done. We are trying to complete the project this year itself. Once finished, the travel time between Jammu and Poonch will be reduced by 1.5 hours. Many local residents, including myself from Akhnoor, are involved in this project with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) supporting us,” he added.
Bridge Construction in Rajouri to Improve Connectivity
In addition to the highway project, construction of a motorable bridge in Rajouri is underway. The bridge will connect Naushera to Seri Block, offering better access to 10 villages in the district.
Local villagers expressed hope that the new bridge would significantly improve connectivity, especially for those in need of urgent medical care.
“After the construction of the bridge, it will provide us with a lot of convenience. It will reduce travel time and improve connectivity,” a villager told ANI.
“Our travel time will be reduced by an hour. All the villagers are very happy,” another resident added.
BRO’s Role in Infrastructure Development
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is actively engaged in multiple road and bridge projects across Jammu and Kashmir.
In October 2024, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated road and 12 bridge projects in the region, with a total investment of ₹731.22 crore.
