‘Construct EVM Temple’: Sanjay Raut Targets Mahayuti in Latest Remark

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 14: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday took a jibe at the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, suggesting that they should organize a procession of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and make a decision to construct a temple dedicated to EVMs.

Raut proposed that, during the first cabinet meeting, the alliance should announce plans to build an EVM temple in front of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Nagpur. “Before taking out a procession of the Chief Minister, they should take out a procession of EVMs and decide to construct an EVM temple,” Raut remarked during a press conference.

He also criticized the new government for its inability to assign cabinet responsibilities, alleging that anarchy had spread across the state, with rising incidents of violence such as murders and rapes. “It has been a month since the new government was formed, but it’s unclear who holds which department. Murders and rapes are happening daily in Maharashtra’s villages, and the CM is unable to address this. Anarchy is rampant, and this government, formed with EVMs, has no brains—only EVMs in their heads,” Raut added.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, speaking at the India Economic Conclave, highlighted that the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured more seats than expected in the Maharashtra Assembly polls. “We got higher numbers than we anticipated,” Fadnavis said, referring to the 132 seats won by the BJP in the elections. On December 5, Fadnavis took oath as the Chief Minister, with Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde and NCP leader Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Ministers.

The Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024 saw the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance securing a landslide victory with 235 seats, with the BJP emerging as the single-largest party with 132 seats. The Shiv Sena and NCP also gained significant ground, winning 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
