New Delhi [India], March 7: The Congress Parliamentary Strategy group is set to meet on March 10 to discuss the party’s position for the remaining part of the Budget session. This session was adjourned on February 13 and is scheduled to reconvene on March 10.
During the earlier phase, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha completed their debates on the Union Budget, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responding to the extensive discussions. The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, was also tabled in Parliament, sparking significant controversy. BJP member Jagdambika Pal, the JPC Chairperson, tabled the report in the Lok Sabha, while party MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni presented it in the Rajya Sabha. Alongside the report, a copy of the record of evidence submitted before the panel was shared.
Opposition members, however, expressed discontent in the Lok Sabha, claiming their dissent notes were excluded from the report. In response, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that the government would have no objections if the opposition’s dissent notes were incorporated into the report, following the proper parliamentary procedure.
In addition to the Waqf Amendment Bill, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the New Income Tax Bill in the Lok Sabha. The bill aims to simplify tax laws, modernize definitions, and provide greater clarity on tax-related matters.
The Parliament will reconvene on March 10, with the budget session concluding on April 4.
