With the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rapidly consolidating a massive lead in the Bihar Assembly election counting, the Opposition Mahagathbandhan (INDIA bloc) has shifted its focus from the voters to the electoral body, launching a fierce attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Congress Spokesperson Alleges Bias
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera sharply criticized the integrity of the counting process, suggesting the real political contest was not between the parties, but between the ECI and the public.
Khera singled out the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of political bias and undue influence.
Pawan Khera: “Going by the early trends, it seems Gyanesh Kumar is outweighing the people of Bihar… There was a book called ‘To Serve with Love.’ Gyanesh Kumar Gupta is writing this book for PM Modi.”
He further alleged that despite what he termed “vote chori” and other irregularities, the people of Bihar had displayed “great courage” by turning out to vote in high numbers.
This strong rhetoric follows months of similar allegations from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has consistently accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating large-scale electoral manipulation, or “vote chori,” in various state elections.
NDA Celebrates Public Trust
While the Opposition questions the legitimacy of the results, the ruling NDA alliance is declaring the trends a clear mandate against “lawlessness.”
Union Minister Giriraj Singh countered the Opposition’s claims, stating that the victory belongs to the BJP and its allies because voters are rejecting misrule.
Giriraj Singh: “Those who understand Bihar know that the people of Bihar do not want ‘jungle raj’ (lawlessness). Bihar’s people do not want anarchy, nor do they want to hand over power to corrupt leaders.”
As of mid-morning, the NDA has cruised past the majority mark of 122 seats, with the BJP battling the JD(U) to emerge as the single-largest party, solidifying the Opposition’s position on the back foot.
