New Delhi [India], January 4 : Congress leader Pramod Tiwari has strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his response to China’s move of establishing two counties in Ladakh. Tiwari accused the Prime Minister of giving China a “clean chit” over its actions, while raising concerns about the government’s reluctance to address the issue in Parliament.
Tiwari said, “China is building counties on land that belongs to India. Our Prime Minister has already cleared this issue, even without any substantial discussions. Why is the Prime Minister scared of China? When we want to raise this matter in Parliament, the government either refuses to answer or provides incomplete responses.”
Tiwari further condemned the government’s policy, asserting, “Every inch of our country is ours. This reveals the weakness of the Prime Minister, and I condemn this policy. Why can’t you stand up to China?”
He also voiced concerns over China’s construction of a dam on the Brahmaputra River, which he claimed would reduce water inflow to India, particularly affecting Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
Earlier, Congress leader Pawan Khera also criticized the government’s response, urging the Centre to take the issue more seriously. Khera called the Ministry of External Affairs’ objection to China’s actions “perfunctory” and emphasized that China’s growing confidence stems from PM Modi’s past remarks. “The clean chit PM Modi gave to China on June 20, 2020, after the Chinese incursions, is fueling their bold moves now,” Khera said. He urged the government to raise stronger objections and introspect on its handling of the matter.
In response, the Ministry of External Affairs had stated on Friday that India had lodged a strong protest with China regarding the establishment of two new counties in Ladakh, reiterating that India does not accept China’s “illegal occupation” of Indian territory.
