Congress’ Naseer Hussain Files Suspension Of Business Notice In Rajya Sabha To Discuss JPC Probe Into Adani Group Allegations

New Delhi [India], December 3: Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain on Tuesday submitted a suspension of business notice in the Rajya Sabha, seeking a discussion on the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the allegations against the Adani Group.

In the notice, Hussain cited Rule 267 of the Rajya Sabha’s Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business and expressed his intention to move a motion to suspend the Zero Hour and Question Hour to discuss the matter. He proposed that the House take up the issue of a JPC probe into serious allegations against the Adani Group.

Hussain’s notice highlighted a U.S. court indictment that allegedly links the Adani Group to bribing state officials to secure Power Supply Agreements (PSAs) through the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). He raised concerns about corruption, misuse of public institutions, and ethical violations in public sector dealings. The notice also called for a discussion on SECI’s role in facilitating such practices and the need for stronger internal oversight.

Furthermore, Hussain demanded the House discuss persistent allegations of financial irregularities involving the Adani Group, such as stock manipulation, the use of tax havens, and the accumulation of unsustainable debt, all of which point to systemic failures in governance and regulatory oversight. He also emphasized concerns regarding the erosion of public trust in key regulatory bodies, including SEBI, and their lack of impartiality in overseeing the situation.

The Congress MP argued that these issues had broader implications for India’s economic integrity, global reputation, and the functioning of public institutions tasked with ensuring transparency and accountability. He urged the House to address these concerns immediately through a thorough parliamentary discussion to uphold good governance and accountability.

Since the start of the Winter Session, parliamentary proceedings have been disrupted due to protests by opposition parties, including calls for a debate on the Adani issue, the Sambhal violence, and the situation in Manipur. On Monday, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned until noon and then for the rest of the day. The Winter Session, which began on November 25, is scheduled to continue until December 20.
