Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Monday criticized the Central government over ongoing disruptions in Parliament, alleging that the government is intentionally preventing the House from functioning. He called for a debate on key issues such as Adani, the farmers’ protests, and the situation in Manipur.
“The government is trying to not let the House function… Its image is worsening among people. We want the House to function and to have a debate on Adani, farmers, and the Manipur issue…” said Tiwari, expressing frustration over the government’s handling of parliamentary proceedings.
Tiwari further addressed the ongoing farmers’ protests, emphasizing that the protesting farmers are not demanding for their own benefit but for the welfare of the country. “Farmers want to come here (to Delhi). They are in very limited numbers; they should be allowed. The government should listen to their demand,” he said.
Meanwhile, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh also voiced his dissatisfaction with the management of the House, describing it as biased. He said, “I have been in government, in opposition, as an MLA and also as an MP from 1977, but in my entire political career, I have never seen such a biased chairman… He doesn’t let us speak but makes everyone (from the government) speak, one by one.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also slammed the government, accusing them of raising issues that are not in the national interest, further fueling the disruption in Parliament.
CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar strongly criticized the government, claiming that the disruptions were part of a deliberate attempt to protect Adani. “It’s very clear that this is a well-calculated, deliberate, but shameful attempt to save Adani… The ruling front is trying to save Adani. We will not allow this; the entire opposition is united in this regard,” he stated.
BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy questioned Congress’s stance on the Adani matter and alleged links with George Soros. “The way opposition behaves in the House – it remains a big question before Congress that why they don’t want the House to function. Why is Congress running away from having a discussion regarding George Soros’ alleged links? Is there anything related to any kind of give and take? Was there any nexus?” Rudy said, calling for an explanation from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm amid disruptions on the 12th day of the Winter session on Monday. Earlier, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed concern over the repeated disruptions, urging MPs to respect the sanctity of the House and avoid hindering its functioning. He emphasized the importance of parliamentary procedures and constructive debate.
The session has seen continued protests from opposition MPs, including Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who joined the protest over the Adani issue. However, members from the Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party did not participate in this protest.
The ongoing Winter session, which began on November 25, has faced significant disruptions and is scheduled to continue until December 20.
