Congress MP Manish Tewari Gives Adjournment Notice In Lok Sabha To Discuss Border Situation With China

New Delhi: Congress MP Manish Tewari on Monday gave an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha demanding a discussion on the border situation and India’s trade deficit with China.

“I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance. That this House do suspend Zero Hour and relevant rules relating to Question Hour and other businesses of the day to have a discussion on the border situation and the huge trade deficit with China,” Tewari stated.

He further stated that, since 2019, there have been ongoing border clashes between India and China, with reports of Chinese troops blocking access to patrolling points in Eastern Ladakh.

“Recently, China rejected the inauguration of the Seva tunnel and claimed parts of Arunachal Pradesh as its territory. Additionally, in 2023-24, India’s trade deficit with China exceeded USD 85 billion, with exports at USD 16.65 billion and imports at USD 101.75 billion. I urge the government to inform the House about the border situation and the trade deficit, and to provide details on efforts to resolve the border dispute and protect India’s integrity against Chinese aggressions. I request permission to raise this matter,” he added.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Manickam Tagore also gave an Adjournment Motion Notice in Lok Sabha and demanded to discuss the unprecedented cases of paper leaks in the conduct of exams, including NEET-UG and UGC NET and the failure of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed several adjournments in the last session, with Congress and other opposition parties insisting on a debate on the NEET-UG controversy while the government was keen to take up the motion of thanks on the President’s address.
The Budget Session of Parliament will commence on Monday and subject to the exigencies of government business, the session is likely to conclude on August 12.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey 2023-24 along with a statistical appendix in Parliament on Monday, a day ahead of the Union Budget.
