Congress Leader Sandeep Dikshit Criticizes Arvind Kejriwal Over Welfare Schemes Ahead Of Delhi Assembly Elections

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit, contesting from the New Delhi Assembly Constituency, criticized Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal for announcing a slew of welfare schemes ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. Dikshit questioned Kejriwal’s ability to deliver on these promises even if re-elected as Chief Minister.

Dikshit’s Remarks:
“Why are these schemes being announced now? AAP has been in power for the last five years. Kejriwal wasted 1.5 years when he went to prison. He could have resigned earlier and completed pending work. Even if he becomes CM again, will he be able to implement any of these promises? He won’t be able to distribute even a penny,” Dikshit told media.

His comments referred to recent welfare schemes announced by AAP, including:

  • Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana
  • Sanjeevani Yojana

Dikshit has also raised concerns about the Mahila Samman Yojana, alleging procedural lapses and questioning the scheme’s legitimacy.

Concerns Over Privacy Violations

Dikshit earlier lodged complaints with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena regarding allegations that personal data of residents was being collected in the name of registrations for the Mahila Samman Yojana.

In response, LG Saxena initiated an inquiry and instructed the Commissioner of Police to investigate potential breaches of privacy laws. The LG’s letter emphasized legal action against individuals misusing citizen data.

The Mahila Samman Yojana promises a cash transfer of ₹2,100 per month for women residing in Delhi. However, the Delhi Women and Child Development (WCD) Department clarified that the scheme had not yet been officially notified.

Political Context

The AAP faces scrutiny over its pre-election welfare announcements as it gears up for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, where it aims to defend its massive 2020 victory of 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP, which secured eight seats in the last election, and the Congress are gearing up to challenge AAP’s dominance.

While AAP positions its welfare schemes as progressive, opposition parties, including Congress, accuse it of electoral opportunism and question its administrative credibility.

The political landscape in Delhi is set for a heated battle as voters assess the credibility of promises made by AAP and the counter-narratives presented by its rivals.
