The Congress party expressed strong outrage on Wednesday following a notice from the central government’s estate department, which directed the party to vacate its long-standing headquarters at 24 Akbar Road by March 28. Party leaders have labeled the move a targeted attempt to suppress the opposition, asserting that the timing and nature of the notice are politically motivated.
Lok Sabha MP Imran Masood was vocal in his criticism, stating that the BJP-led government is attempting to “silence” the party through intimidation. Masood suggested that the move is a diversionary tactic, claiming the government is trying to shift public focus away from its handling of international crises, specifically referencing the ongoing Iran war.
The 24 Akbar Road bungalow has been the nerve center for the Congress party for nearly five decades. Masood questioned whether similar standards were being applied to BJP offices, while Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari characterized the administration as “undemocratic.” Tiwari noted that the party would formalize its legal and political response once the notice has been fully reviewed by their leadership.
