New Delhi, January 19: Sandeep Dikshit, Congress candidate for the New Delhi Assembly seat, has accused AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal of degrading the level of politics in Delhi by using inappropriate language against his late mother, Sheila Dikshit, the former Chief Minister of Delhi.
During a door-to-door campaign in the New Delhi constituency, Sandeep Dikshit responded to Kejriwal’s recent statement, in which he referred to Sheila Dikshit as a “good woman” who fought free and fair elections. Dikshit hit back, saying, “Look at how Kejriwal spoke about Sheila Dikshit. He used inappropriate language against her. Did they not remember then that she was a dignified woman? Arvind Kejriwal is directly responsible for degrading the level of politics in Delhi and poisoning its culture.”
Sheila Dikshit, who served as Delhi’s Chief Minister for 15 years from 1998 to 2013, remains one of the most prominent political figures in the city.
Sandeep Dikshit also highlighted his mother’s contributions as CM, particularly the closure of muster rolls by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). He stated, “We are getting a very good response from the public. People are disappointed with both Kejriwal and the BJP. The biggest issue is the closure of muster rolls for the past 10 years, and people want the ones from Sheila Dikshit’s tenure to be resumed.”
The New Delhi Assembly seat is set for a three-way contest between Congress, the BJP, and AAP, with BJP fielding Parvesh Verma and AAP placing Kejriwal as its candidate. Voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will take place on February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.
