Congress MPs Call For Adjournment Motion Over Price Rise And Manipur Crisis

New Delhi [India]: Congress Lok Sabha MP Vijay Kumar alias Vijay Vasanth on Tuesday submitted a notice to move a motion for the adjournment of the House, seeking an urgent discussion on rising prices of essential goods.

In his notice, Vasanth highlighted the continuous rise in prices of essential commodities like milk, vegetables, cooking oils, and other daily-use items, which has significantly impacted millions of ordinary citizens across India.

“The rising cost of living has become a significant burden for the common man. Despite the Budget 2025 and ongoing policy discussions, the government has not implemented any concrete measures to control inflation or support middle-class and working-class families,” he stated.

Vasanth particularly emphasized the issue of increasing milk prices, which he said is affecting the daily diet of millions of Indian households.

“Milk prices have been increasing every month in various parts of the country, with many states reporting hikes of 5-10% over the last few months. Despite this, the government has failed to take any significant action to regulate or stabilize milk prices,” he said, warning that the continued rise is pushing basic nutrition beyond the reach of low-income households.

Congress MP Raises Constitutional Concerns Over Manipur Crisis

Separately, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury also submitted a notice for an adjournment motion to discuss the constitutional crisis in Manipur.

Following the resignation of Manipur CM Biren Singh on Sunday, after nearly two years of turmoil, Chowdhury criticized the lack of clear leadership in the state.

“A state in continuous turmoil for almost two years cannot be left without a Chief Minister or even a caretaker one,” she stated in her notice.

She also raised concerns over the constitutional mandate regarding Assembly sessions, citing Article 174 (1) of the Constitution, which states that there cannot be more than a six-month gap between two Assembly sessions.

“The Manipur Legislative Assembly must conclude its current session today, as mandated by the Constitution. The Union Government must answer why the Manipur Governor is violating Article 174(1) by not summoning the Assembly for its Constitutionally Mandated session,” Chowdhury questioned.

She further claimed that the session was declared null and void because the ruling party failed to appoint a successor Chief Minister, fearing a No-Confidence Motion by the Opposition.
