Context: India’s Got Latent Controversy
Raina’s digital talent show, India’s Got Latent, recently came under fire after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made a controversial remark involving a contestant’s parents, which went viral and triggered public outrage. Allahbadia later issued a public apology, acknowledging his comment lacked both humour and sensitivity.
Compounding the controversy, the Supreme Court of India recently summoned Samay Raina and four others over allegedly insensitive remarks against persons with disabilities made during the show. The court has asked the comedians to appear in person.
Legal Action
Separately, the Guwahati Crime Branch filed a case against Raina for allegedly promoting vulgar and obscene content through the India’s Got Latent series on YouTube. The investigation is ongoing.
Despite these controversies, Raina seems determined to move forward with his career, with this international tour marking what he hopes to be a comeback moment on the global comedy stage.
