Cold Wave Grips Jammu And Kashmir As Srinagar Records 0°C, Lal Draman Winter Festival Draws Tourists

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]: The cold wave persists in Jammu and Kashmir as Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 0 degrees Celsius on Friday morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Several towns across the Kashmir Valley continue to experience harsh winter conditions, with the maximum temperature in Srinagar reaching 15°C during the day. Serene visuals from Dal Lake captured locals and tourists enjoying the winter chill amidst the picturesque snow-covered landscape.

Freezing Temperatures Across Kashmir

According to the IMD, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Kupwara witnessed sub-zero temperatures over the last 24 hours, further intensifying the winter conditions in the region.

The ongoing cold spell follows the extreme weather phase of Chillai Kalan (December 21 – January 31), which brought heavy snowfall, sub-zero temperatures, and frozen water bodies across the region. This period often results in the freezing of Dal Lake and other water sources, affecting daily life in the Valley.

Lal Draman Winter Festival 2025 Draws Thousands of Tourists

Despite the cold, the Lal Draman Winter Festival-2025, held on February 9 in Doda district, brought warmth and festivity to the region. Organized by the District Administration and Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department, the event attracted thousands of visitors, including tourists, locals, officials, and media personnel.

The festival transformed Lal Draman, a scenic meadow in Doda district, into a hub of cultural and adventure activities. It showcased the rich heritage of the Lolab Valley in Kupwara, highlighting the natural beauty and traditions of the region.

The event featured thrilling activities aimed at celebrating the winter season and promoting Jammu and Kashmir as a premier winter tourism destination.

With the winter season still in full swing, tourists and locals continue to embrace the chill, making the most of the region’s breathtaking landscapes and cultural festivities.
