Cold Wave Continues To Grip Jammu And Kashmir, Temperatures Dip as Winter Festivities Bring Serene Beauty

New Delhi (India), February 13 : Cold wave conditions continue to affect Jammu and Kashmir as Srinagar and several other towns experience inclement weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that temperatures in Srinagar remained low, accompanied by a partly cloudy sky.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in Srinagar is expected to be 15°C, with the minimum temperature forecasted to be 2°C. Despite the chilly conditions, stunning visuals of the Dal Lake emerged, with people enjoying the serene winter season.

The IMD also predicted that several towns, including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Kupwara, will experience temperatures dipping below zero degrees Celsius.

Amidst the cold and snow, Indian Army personnel continued their patrolling operations in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Monday to ensure security in the region, despite the harsh weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Lal Draman Winter Festival-2025 was held in Doda district on February 9, organized by the District Administration and the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department. The festival, which attracted thousands of visitors including tourists, locals, officials, and media, celebrated the region’s cultural heritage, adventure activities, and natural beauty.

The festival took place in Lal Draman, a beautiful meadow in Doda, and featured exhilarating activities. It highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the Lolab Valley in Kupwara district, aiming to promote the region’s scenic beauty and winter charm.

The event took place after the end of Chillai Kalan, the harsh 40-day winter period that began on December 21 and ended on January 31. This period is marked by sub-zero temperatures, frozen water bodies, and snow-covered landscapes. Dal Lake, along with other water bodies, often freezes during this time due to extremely low temperatures, and snowfall disrupts daily life in the region.
