Cold Conditions Continue In Jammu & Kashmir; Dry Weather Expected For The Coming Days

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], January 7: Cold conditions persist in Jammu and Kashmir, with the weather expected to remain generally dry for the next few days, according to the Meteorological Department.

Vishnu, a tourist from Jaipur, shared, “The cold is intense. Even though I’m wearing a jacket, sweater, and cap, I still feel cold. I don’t think the sun will come out today.” He added that recent snowfall has made the region even more beautiful and invited others to experience Kashmir’s winter charm.

Devendra, a tourist from Kota, Rajasthan, mentioned, “I visit Kashmir every year. The cold here is harsh, so it’s important to wear gloves and a cap. Despite the chilly weather, all the facilities are available here, though it’s a bit expensive.” He recommended taking a Dal Lake tour, sipping traditional Kashmiri ‘kahwa,’ and enjoying the sights.

According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, the weather will remain generally dry through January 8 and 9. Snow is forecasted at isolated locations between January 11-12. The department has issued a traffic advisory for tourists, warning of isolated cold waves and possible shallow to moderate fog in the plains of Kashmir and Jammu from January 7-10.

For January 13 and 15, dry weather is expected, the forecast added. The current temperature in Srinagar is 1.9 degrees Celsius, with Pahalgam at -7.2 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg at -4.4 degrees Celsius, Jammu at 8.3 degrees Celsius, Katra at 9.8 degrees Celsius, Kupwara at -0.4 degrees Celsius, and Banihal at 4.6 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar experienced its first snowfall of the season on December 27. Meanwhile, a thick layer of fog continues to blanket parts of North India, leading to delays in train services.
