Stampede Tragedy During Mauni Amavasya Snan

Earlier this week, a stampede at the Mahakumbh mela during Mauni Amavasya led to the tragic deaths of 30 people and left 60 others injured. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning at the Sangam—the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mystical Saraswati.

A three-member judicial commission has been formed to investigate the causes and circumstances that led to the stampede. On Friday, the commission visited Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Prayagraj, where many of the injured victims are receiving treatment.

According to the official notification, the commission is expected to:

  • Examine the causes of the stampede.
  • Analyze the circumstances that contributed to the tragedy.
  • Provide recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The investigation report is to be submitted within a month.
