In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Yogi wrote:
“Heartfelt salutations on the birth anniversary of the mighty warrior Rana Sanga, who was devoted to the protection of dharma! His saga of patriotism and sacrifice is a golden chapter in history. His valour will continue to inspire and instil pride in the land of Bharat for generations to come.”
Rana Sanga, also known as Sangram Singh I, ruled the kingdom of Mewar from 1508 to 1528 and is celebrated for his bravery and resistance against foreign invaders.
Meanwhile, a political controversy has erupted over remarks made by Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ramji Lal Suman, who reportedly referred to Rana Sanga as a “traitor” for allegedly allying with Babur, founder of the Mughal dynasty, in the battle against Ibrahim Lodi. His statement has drawn widespread criticism from various quarters.
On March 26, violence broke out outside Suman’s residence in Agra, where unidentified individuals pelted stones, smashed window panes, and vandalized vehicles parked nearby.
In response, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav accused CM Yogi of giving a green light to the attack.
“The incident with Ramji Lal Suman is sad and should be condemned. Ramji Lal Suman is a Dalit MP and has a lot of experience and his residence was attacked when the Chief Minister himself was in the district. This attack took place with the consent of the Chief Minister of UP,” Akhilesh alleged.
The remarks by Suman have sparked backlash, including protests. On March 28, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a demonstration in Lucknow, demanding an apology and action against the MP for his comments about the Rajput king.
