Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday reassured residents that the state government is taking all necessary steps to safeguard lives and property as thunderstorms, heavy rain, hailstorms, and lightning hit several districts across the state.
Taking to X, CM Adityanath stated:
“Information of thunderstorms, rain, and hailstorms has been received from many districts in the state. But there is no need to worry. The safety of every resident of the state is the priority of your government.”
Relief Measures and Government Directives
The Chief Minister has issued immediate instructions to district officials to survey affected areas and initiate relief efforts without delay. Key directives include:
- Immediate compensation in the event of human or livestock casualties
- Timely medical treatment for those injured
- Assessment and reporting of crop damage due to storms and hail
- Ensuring proper drainage systems to prevent waterlogging
- Safe storage of wheat in view of ongoing government procurement drives at mandis and purchase centres
Weather Forecast by IMD
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD):
- On April 18, thunderstorms with gusty winds (40–50 km/h) and rainfall are expected across eastern and western UP.
- For April 19–20, more rain and thunderstorm activity is anticipated, especially in Western Uttar Pradesh.
CM Adityanath emphasized that relief distribution and crop assessments should be carried out on an urgent basis and transparency must be maintained in reporting losses and extending compensation.
