Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, alongside Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh, inaugurated the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) in Lucknow on Monday. The launch coincided with the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution.
During the inauguration, CM Yogi highlighted the vital role tribunals play in the justice system, especially in providing timely redressal to government officers and employees whose cases have been long pending in courts.
“Today is a significant day, as we commemorate the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar. The government’s objective behind setting up tribunals has always been clear—relieve the burden on traditional courts and deliver timely justice in pending service-related matters,” the Chief Minister said.
CM Yogi explained that tribunals like CAT are designed to ensure that central government employees and officials, who feel denied justice, have a dedicated platform to resolve disputes based on merit.
He further stated, “The CAT in Lucknow will serve central employees across 16 districts. A state-of-the-art facility has been built for them, and I believe this institution will realize Prime Minister Modi’s vision of accessible and timely justice for all.”
Reinforcing his commitment to transparent and fair governance, the CM added, “The foundation of good governance is the rule of law—one that is simple, communicable, and accessible to every citizen, worker, and government employee. No injustice should go unheard.”
Highlighting the challenge of delayed justice, CM Yogi remarked, “Justice delayed is justice denied. In our system, there can be no greater irony than years of waiting for a verdict. I recall a case related to the Gorakhpur Math that began in 1956 and wasn’t resolved by the Supreme Court until 1997—over 40 years later. I was the third generation by then and didn’t even know the details of the original case.”
The CAT’s inauguration in Lucknow is expected to significantly reduce delays in adjudication of service matters and improve access to justice for government employees across the region.
