Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday called for an early conclusion of the ongoing discussions on restoring statehood to the Union Territory, expressing hope that people would soon receive what they have long been demanding.
“Let there be discussions, it is a good thing. But we would want the discussions to conclude soon and that we get what we are demanding,” Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of a special National Integration Camp organized by the Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh NCC Directorate in Srinagar.
Abdullah also welcomed the sanctioning of several major infrastructure projects worth ₹10,600 crore, including tunnels, which he said would provide a “huge boost” to the Union Territory’s connectivity and development.
“These projects will give a huge boost to the UT,” the chief minister said.
Addressing NCC Cadets: Youth as Peace Ambassadors
Later, while addressing the NCC Special Integration Camp 2025 at Badami Bagh Cantonment, Abdullah praised the presence of young cadets from across India, calling their visit a “morale booster” for the people of the Valley.
Touching on the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Abdullah said:
“This year has brought us pain we hoped never to experience again,” and urged the cadets to become ambassadors of peace, unity, and harmony by sharing their positive experiences of Kashmir with people in their home states.
Highlighting the importance of national engagement with Jammu and Kashmir, he suggested:
“Let cadets witness the incredible engineering marvels that connect the Valley to the rest of the country. It will be a journey of inspiration.”
Abdullah also commended the cadets for their cultural performances, which he said beautifully captured the spirit of unity in diversity.
“In less than an hour, you transported us from the snowy heights of Kashmir to the sunlit shores of Kerala. Your discipline, effort and talent are truly commendable,” he remarked.
