Rishikesh/Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta continues to draw attention not only for her governance but also for her deep-rooted spiritual engagement. During a spiritual visit to Rishikesh, Gupta was praised by noted spiritual leader Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati for staying focused on Delhi’s civic issues even during her personal retreat.
“She is on a spiritual journey with her family after 100 days of becoming Chief Minister, but her mind is still with Delhi,” Sadhvi Bhagawati told media.
“While doing aarti on the banks of Maa Ganga, she was thinking about how to bring Ganga ji’s purity to Delhi. She wants Yamuna to be as clean as the Ganga.”
A Spiritual Yet Committed Leader
CM Gupta, who completed 100 days in office, visited Parmarth Niketan in Rishikesh and offered prayers with Swami Chidanand Saraswati Maharaj. Her presence and conversations indicated that she remains committed to the revival of the Yamuna River, which she sees as vital to Delhi’s spiritual and ecological rejuvenation.
“Usually, when people come here, they leave their work behind. But CM Rekha Gupta was constantly thinking about her responsibilities,” said Sadhvi Bhagawati.
Vow to Revive Yamuna, Inspired by Ganga
Speaking in Haridwar, where she took a holy dip in the Ganga and met Swami Avdheshanand Giri Maharaj, Gupta expressed that the Yamuna should be made worthy of similar devotion.
“I prayed that just as lakhs come to bathe in the Ganga, the Yamuna should also become clean so that people can bathe in it too,” she said.
Gupta pointed to past inaction and mismanagement as reasons for the Yamuna’s pollution, stating:
“Earlier governments lacked both intention and policy. Under our leadership and with PM Modi’s guidance, our intentions and plans are clear.”
Action on Ground: Yamuna Ferry and Clean-Up Drive
CM Gupta outlined steps being taken, including:
- Running a small ferry on the Yamuna River.
- Cleaning 150–200 drains that release sludge into the Yamuna.
- Expanding Yamuna Aarti from one ghat to both sides of the river.
“We have already started Aarti at one ghat. Our dream is to see the Yamuna with odourless water and greenery all around,” she added.
100 Days of Governance and a Spiritual Recharge
Celebrating her first 100 days in office, Gupta said that visiting spiritual places like Haridwar and Rishikesh provided her with renewed strength and a deeper sense of responsibility toward Delhi’s development.
“After taking the blessings of my Gurujan, I feel more powerful from within. I seek the strength to fulfil the aspirations of Delhi’s people.”
Conclusion:
CM Rekha Gupta’s visit to Uttarakhand symbolizes a rare blend of governance, spirituality, and civic responsibility. With spiritual leaders lauding her commitment, and a clear roadmap for cleaning the Yamuna, her leadership continues to gain moral and political momentum.
