Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday reaffirmed her government’s commitment to uplift the lives of slum dwellers, declaring that “achhe din are beginning” for those who have long been neglected by past administrations.
While inaugurating a series of development projects in her Shalimar Bagh constituency, CM Gupta highlighted several new initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and housing for the urban poor.
“Previous governments only used slum dwellers as vote banks and instilled fear that the BJP would clear slums. But we are here to serve every poor citizen with dignity,” she said.
₹700 Crore for Slum Welfare, 52,000 Flats to Be Renovated
Gupta announced that a ₹700 crore fund under the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has been exclusively earmarked for the welfare of slum dwellers.
She revealed that 52,000 flats, which were built over a decade ago but left unused, will now be renovated and allotted to eligible families from slum areas.
“These flats were ignored for 10 years. Our government will now give these homes to those who truly need them,” CM Gupta asserted.
Drainage and Water Projects Launched
At the event, CM Gupta inaugurated a drainage construction project in a local slum, signaling the start of comprehensive urban infrastructure upgrades.
She also launched a new water supply system, promising daily access to water from 6 am to 8 am and an additional half-hour in the evening—a major relief for local residents.
“Earlier, you didn’t get water in the evening. Now, you’ll get it twice a day. This is just the beginning of our commitment,” she told residents.
High-Level Review Meeting with DMs
On Monday, Gupta also chaired a high-level review meeting with all 11 District Magistrates of Delhi, focusing on administrative performance, civic services, land record digitization, and public grievance redressal.
Key instructions from the meeting included:
- Regular field inspections by DMs
- Crackdown on encroachments
- Monitoring of cleanliness, waterlogging, and traffic congestion
- Zero tolerance toward corruption, especially in EWS housing schemes
“Transparency, accountability, and citizen-centric service delivery are non-negotiable. We will ensure clean governance and fast-track progress,” the Chief Minister emphasized.
Message to the Public
CM Rekha Gupta’s strong statements and visible actions mark a clear push toward inclusive urban development in Delhi. Backed by a major fund, housing reforms, and improved basic services, her government seeks to turn years of neglect into real transformation for the city’s marginalized communities.
With direct reference to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she said:
“This work is a message to every slum dweller — the BJP government, under PM Modi, is with you and working for your welfare.”
