Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], May 20: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav laid the foundation stone for the restoration and garden redevelopment of the historic Lalbagh Palace in Indore on Tuesday. The project, estimated at over ₹47 crore, marks a significant step toward preserving the state’s cultural heritage and promoting tourism.
“Today, I performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the restoration and garden redevelopment works of Lalbagh Palace costing more than ₹47 crore during my visit to Indore,” CM Yadav wrote on X. “Lalbagh Palace is a symbol of our rich heritage and cultural pride. Conserving this heritage will connect future generations with our history and place Indore’s legacy on the global stage.”
The Lalbagh Palace, an architectural gem of the Holkar dynasty, is being revitalized as part of the state’s broader effort to develop tourism while preserving historical landmarks.
In a tribute to Malharrao Holkar, founder of the Holkar dynasty, CM Yadav also garlanded his statue at Lalbagh Palace on the occasion of his death anniversary. He hailed Holkar as a “symbol of valour and bravery” and an enduring inspiration for future generations.
“On the death anniversary of the great warrior Malharrao Holkar, I paid tribute at Lalbagh Palace, Indore. Your life was an embodiment of courage and patriotism,” Yadav posted.
As part of his visit, the Chief Minister also stopped at the Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya (Indore Zoo), where he released a male King Cobra into the snake park. He praised the zoo authorities for their conservation efforts and emphasized the importance of wildlife protection in nurturing ecological balance and educating the youth.
“The efforts being made here for the conservation of biodiversity are commendable. Conservation of animals is a service to nature, and a vital way to educate future generations,” the Chief Minister added.
The visit underlined the state’s dual focus on cultural conservation and environmental sustainability, positioning Indore as a center for both heritage tourism and biodiversity awareness.
