Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Shipbuilding Policy; CM Fadnavis Announces Rs 50 Lakh Aid For Pahalgam Terror Victims’ Families

In a major policy decision aimed at boosting the maritime economy, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced the approval of a new state policy on shipbuilding, shipbreaking, and ship repair. He stated that the initiative will create a robust ecosystem around the maritime sector and generate significant employment in the state.

“The cabinet has approved a new policy of shipbuilding, shipbreaking, and ship repair in Maharashtra. India has strong potential in this sector, and this policy will help boost the economy and generate employment,” CM Fadnavis told reporters.

Support for Victims of Pahalgam Attack

The Chief Minister also addressed the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, announcing Rs 50 lakh compensation for the families of those from Maharashtra who were killed in the incident. He added that government jobs will be offered to the next of kin in cases where the deceased was the sole breadwinner.

“Our government will provide compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the families of the deceased. Where there is no earning member, we will provide a government job to an immediate family member,” Fadnavis declared.

Among the victims was Santosh Jagdale, whose daughter has now been officially offered a government job under the Chief Minister’s special authority.

National Impact and Broader Response

The Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, has provoked national outrage and prompted significant diplomatic actions by India. The Jammu and Kashmir government had earlier announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for the families of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh for the injured.

As a broader measure, the Government of India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty of 1960, halted operations at the Attari border checkpost, and signaled a strong diplomatic stance against Pakistan’s continued support for cross-border terrorism.
