CM Dhami Announces “Journalist Welfare Fund To Increase To Rs 10 Crore”

January 5, 2025: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has recently made several important announcements and participated in key events aimed at enhancing the state’s development and welfare initiatives. Here are some highlights:

Increased Funding for Journalist Welfare: The Chief Minister announced a significant increase in the budget of the Journalist Welfare Fund in the state, which will now be raised from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore. This move underscores the government’s commitment to the well-being of journalists. Additionally, journalists will now be given accreditation at the tehsil (sub-district) level, which will make the accreditation process more accessible and efficient.

‘Adopt a Village’ Program: Dhami also highlighted the success of the ‘Adopt a Village’ program, which encourages Non-Resident Uttarakhandis (NRIs) to adopt villages in the state and contribute to their development. After a dialogue with NRIs in March 2023, several of them have shown interest by identifying villages for adoption and providing development plans. The government is working on turning these villages into role models of development, which could inspire further contributions from other NRIs and migrants.

Inauguration of State Industrial Agriculture Development Fair: In a nod to historical figures, Dhami inaugurated a 5-day fair in memory of Veer Shiromani Madho Singh Bhandari, a revered warrior. The event, held in Maletha, Tehri Garhwal, also included a march-past by various schools and NCC cadets, along with departmental stalls highlighting industrial and agricultural advancements. The Chief Minister expressed his commitment to ensuring the development of Uttarakhand, honoring the legacy of Madho Singh Bhandari by ensuring his contributions are remembered and carried forward.

Homage to Madho Singh Bhandari: On the same day, CM Dhami paid tribute to the warrior by garlanding his statue at the memorial in Maletha, underscoring the state’s resolve to carry forward the spirit of development and bravery exemplified by Bhandari.

These initiatives demonstrate the Uttarakhand government’s focus on both welfare (especially for journalists) and the state’s development through strategic programs like ‘Adopt a Village’, while also honoring the historical legacy of influential figures.
