January 5, 2025: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi praised the collaborative efforts between the Delhi government and the Central government for significantly advancing the transport infrastructure of the capital city. CM Atishi highlighted the ongoing and future development projects that are set to transform Delhi’s transport sector.
She expressed her congratulations to the people of Delhi for the progress in this sector, stating, “The Delhi government and the central government are jointly taking the transport sector in Delhi forward.”
Atishi emphasized that the recent developments, including the inauguration of a new metro line and the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), are crucial milestones. She noted, “With today’s inauguration of the metro line, Delhi is starting to become a model in the transport sector in the country and the world.”
In the past decade, Delhi’s transport infrastructure has seen remarkable expansion, she said. The metro network, for instance, has grown by 200 km, with an additional 250 km under construction. Moreover, 38 new flyovers have been built, improving road travel efficiency. Atishi also praised the rise of electric buses in the capital, positioning Delhi as a global leader in the green transport revolution.
The city’s ambitious plans include the inauguration of the Janakpuri to Krishna Park metro stretch, part of Metro Phase-IV. This 2.8 km section, worth about ₹1,200 crore, is the first part of Phase-IV to be completed, benefiting areas like Janakpuri, Vikaspuri, and Krishna Park in West Delhi.
In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the 26.5 km Rithala-Kundli metro section, which connects Rithala (Delhi) to Nathupur (Kundli, Haryana). This Rs 6,230 crore project will improve connectivity between Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh by extending the Red Line, benefiting key areas such as Rohini, Bawana, Narela, and Kundli, and enhancing access to residential, commercial, and industrial zones.
CM Atishi’s remarks reflect the growing recognition of Delhi as a model for transport development, both in India and globally, thanks to these joint efforts between the state and central governments.
