On Saturday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced a big compensation package for onion growers whose crops were ruined by the torrential rains that fell recently. The CM confirmed that farmers would get ₹50,000 for every hectare.
“We’ve decided to provide each onion farmer Rs 50,000 per hectare. “Farmers growing onions on 45,000 acres will benefit from this decision,” Naidu wrote on X.
Naidu said that the decision would put further financial strain on the state, but he highlighted that it was made for the good of the farmers.
The CM said again that his government would help farmers, pointing out that there were a lot more onions grown this season. He further said that the TDP-led government strongly believes that the state’s success depends on the success of its farmers.
Naidu stated, “We will take one step forward to stand by farmers, whether it is the minimum support price or any other issue that affects them.”
He says that the government has always acted quickly to help farmers in trouble over the previous 15 months.
