Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], March 15: Tensions flared up during Holi celebrations in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Friday, leading to clashes between two communities and the torching of several vehicles, officials confirmed.
The altercation occurred when a Holi procession was passing through a street near Ghodthambha Chowk, which escalated into a chaotic situation that lasted for about an hour. Authorities quickly responded to the scene, and the situation has since been brought under control.
Dr. Bimal, the Superintendent of Police (SP), assured the public that no major injuries were reported, although some vehicles were set on fire during the disturbances. The authorities have initiated an investigation to identify the individuals responsible for the violence, and strict action will be taken against them.
“An incident of clash between two communities has come to light in Ghorthamba OP constituency during Holi celebrations. We are in the process of identifying the people involved. Strict action will be taken against them. The situation is currently under control, and no major injuries have been reported… some vehicles were also set on fire,” Dr. Bimal said.
Deputy Development Commissioner Smita Kumari added that the violence was instigated by “anti-social” elements who attempted to disturb public order during the celebrations. However, she confirmed that the situation was now under control. “During the Holi celebrations, some anti-social elements tried to disturb law and order, but now the situation is under control. As per the information we have received, some anti-social elements set a few vehicles on fire. The investigation is being done to determine the cause of the incident,” she stated.
Security personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order, and further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
