‘Citadel’ Season 2 Delayed To 2026 Amid Production Challenges

Washington DC [US], March 29: The release of ‘Citadel’ Season 2, starring Priyanka Chopra, has been delayed until spring 2026, as the spy thriller faces production challenges. Originally scheduled for a 2025 release, the show, produced by Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO, is undergoing further changes due to Amazon MGM’s dissatisfaction with the current version.

Production Challenges and Spinoff Delays

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon MGM has decided to push back the release and put all Citadel spinoff series on hold until the second season is finalized. Despite the franchise’s initial vision of a global interconnected spy universe, featuring spinoffs like ‘Citadel: Diana’ (Italy) and ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ (India), further development has been paused.

The first season of ‘Citadel’ was one of Amazon’s most expensive projects, reportedly costing $235 million due to extensive reshoots and budget overruns. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the series was renewed for a second season.

Status of ‘Citadel’ Season 2

Filming for the second season concluded in November 2023, but Amazon MGM is now making significant modifications to improve the final product. Complicating matters, Jennifer Salke, the former Amazon MGM executive who supported the project, was recently removed from her position, adding uncertainty to the series’ future.

The First Season and Indian Spinoff

The debut season of ‘Citadel’ featured Priyanka Chopra, alongside Richard Madden, Stanley Tucci, Lesley Manville, Ashleigh Cummings, Roland Moller, and Rahul Kohli. The series spanned six episodes and explored a high-stakes global spy mission.

Meanwhile, the Indian spinoff, ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, premiered on November 7, 2023. The action-packed series was written by Sita R. Menon and directed by the acclaimed duo Raj & DK (Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK).
