New Delhi [India]: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Monday denied any shortcomings in managing the scuffle that broke out on December 19 near the Makar Dwar gate of Parliament, resulting in injuries to BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput.
CISF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shrikant Kishore asserted that the force followed all protocols during the incident. “There was no lapse on the part of CISF when the clash happened,” he stated.
Addressing the media, Kishore also clarified that the CISF has not initiated any inquiry into the matter, nor has it been directed to do so.
The scuffle, which occurred just before the Houses convened at 11 am, led to Sarangi suffering a deep cut on his forehead, while Rajput fell unconscious due to elevated blood pressure. The altercation took place as a group of BJP MPs gathered near the Makar Dwar entrance to protest Congress’s alleged disrespect toward Dr. BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution.
Tensions escalated when Congress leader and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi attempted to pass through the gathering. According to Sarangi, Gandhi allegedly shoved Mukesh Rajput, causing both MPs to fall. Sarangi, a 70-year-old MP from Balasore, Odisha, sustained injuries to his forehead and knee and was subsequently admitted to the ICU at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
The BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of physical aggression, labeling his actions as “goonish.” In contrast, Congress MPs have filed complaints, claiming that Rahul Gandhi was manhandled by three BJP MPs during the incident.
As the incident continues to spark political outrage, both parties have accused each other of misconduct, further intensifying tensions within Parliament.
