The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) launched coordinated raids across the Valley on Sunday, resulting in the detention of nine people, including one woman, as part of a decisive crackdown on online terror networks and youth radicalisation.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the online glorification of terrorism, CIK teams targeted 10 specific locations spanning five districts: Srinagar, Kulgam, Baramulla, Shopian, and Pulwama.
Robust Operation Against Cyber Abuse
A CIK spokesperson confirmed the operation, stating that the action sends a “decisive message against extremism and cyber abuse.”
“In a sweeping crackdown on online terror networks, CIK launched coordinated raids across Kashmir Valley today, sending a decisive message against extremism and cyber abuse,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
The robust operation, which received support from local police, focused specifically on individuals alleged to be misusing social media platforms to:
- Incite violence.
- Spread anti-national propaganda.
- Foster communal hatred.
Incriminating Evidence Seized
The crackdown led to the detention of nine suspects, including one woman. Officials seized a significant amount of incriminating digital evidence from the locations.
The recovered items include:
- SIM cards
- Mobile phones
- Tablets
- A variety of other digital devices
All the recovered material has been sent for forensic examination, with the spokesperson noting that the evidence is expected to “yield critical leads,” which will pave the way for further investigation and additional enforcement actions.
Intensified Fight Against Digital Threats
The CIK emphasized that this action underscores its commitment to internal security and public order by “rooting out digital threats at their source.”
The spokesperson warned that this is just the beginning of an intensified fight against online terrorism and unlawful digital activity. Authorities remain “steadfast in upholding peace in the Valley and protecting Kashmir’s youth from the influence of Pakistan-backed terrorist handlers and violent extremism,” the official concluded, adding that more raids and detentions are imminent.
