Washington, DC [US], July 10: Reality TV personality Cierra Ortega has spoken out following her sudden departure from Love Island USA, which aired on July 6. The 25-year-old left the villa due to what the show cited as a “personal situation.” However, the exit came shortly after resurfaced social media posts showed her using a racial slur, triggering online backlash.
Now back in the United States, Cierra addressed the issue through a heartfelt video and written statement shared on her Instagram profile.
“I want to first start by addressing not just anyone I have hurt or deeply offended, but most importantly, the entire Asian community,” she said. “I am deeply, truly, and honestly so sorry.”
Cierra emphasized that she did not understand the severity or historical context of the slur when she initially used it.
“I had no idea that the word carried as much pain and harm, or came with the history that it did. I had no ill intent when I used it. But that’s no excuse—intent doesn’t excuse ignorance,” she added.
She confirmed that she immediately deleted the post and began the process of educating herself and others around her.
“In that moment, I was embarrassed… I was apologetic, and I educated not only myself on the true meaning and history of the word but also anyone around me.”

Family Response to Online Hate
Following her exit, Cierra’s family also issued a statement acknowledging the backlash while expressing concern over the intense level of online harassment.
“We understand why people are upset, and we know accountability matters. But what’s happening online right now has gone far beyond that,” the statement read.
