Los Angeles [US], July 9: The world’s favorite lasagna-loving feline is back! Chris Pratt is confirmed to reprise his role as the voice of Garfield in the sequel to 2024’s The Garfield Movie, which grossed over $230 million worldwide, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Released by Sony Pictures globally (excluding China), the original film reintroduced Jim Davis’ iconic comic strip character to a new generation and became a major box office success. Following its popularity, the franchise is officially moving ahead with a second installment.
Production will once again be led by Alcon Entertainment’s co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, alongside producers John Cohen, Steven P. Wegner, and Chris Pratt himself. Prime Focus Studios, under the leadership of Namit Malhotra, is co-producing the project, while DNEG Animation is returning to handle the animation.
The film rights to Garfield were previously secured by Alcon from creator Jim Davis, who will stay on as executive producer for the sequel. Bridget McMeel of Amuse will also serve as executive producer.
While the voice cast is beginning to take shape, a director and screenwriter have not yet been named, and the production team is actively searching for the right fit.
Chris Pratt, best known for his blockbuster roles in Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy, continues to expand his animated film portfolio. He is also involved in several upcoming projects including Mercy for Amazon, MGM, and Way of the Warrior Kid for Apple and Skydance.
Fans of the orange tabby can look forward to more food, fun, and feline antics when Garfield returns to the big screen.
